I am passionate about caring for vulnerable people using a contextual, relational approach that treats the whole person in all their physical, social, psychological, and spiritual complexity. My lived experience in the healthcare system often devalues this comprehensive approach, prioritizing a model that is cost-effective, efficient and conceptualizes patients primarily as their disease or disorder. Nursing for me is value based, relational, in-the-moment, whole perspective care.
As I respond to the call to train as an NP and function at a more advanced level of practice, I long to use my voice to support a comprehensive approach to care-provision alongside interdisciplinary colleagues. I aspire to be a role model and disciplinary leader that imparts hope and healing to suffering people and inspires others to mobilize an approach to care that is relational, compassionate, and comprehensive.
